Every Family a Domestic Church -- in Mission to the World

"Be on your guard and avoid every kind of greed,
for even though you have many possessions, your life doesn't depend on them."
Dear Friend,

The Church has been exhorting us to become a Church of the Poor. But this does not mean that we have to devoid ourselves of any ambition to develop a career to secure the future of our families. This right attitude towards a career and securing one's future, at the same time belong to the Church of the Poor, is developed within a family. The Gospel of this Sunday is such teaching of Jesus.

Please read Luke 12:13-15 to your family. And dialogue on what Jesus meant when He said, "Be on your guard and avoid every kind of greed, for even though you have many possessions, your life doesn't depend on them." Give particular attention on His words, "avoid very kind of greed." Greed is keeping something that deprives somebody else to live. It is selfishness.

How can we say these are "excess" possessions?

Then, continue reading to the family the Gospel according to Luke 12:16-21.

What possessions do the rich man has in excess of his needs?

How does Jesus define "excess" possessions in His parable?

Prayer and Reflection ~

Request the family to reflect on its possessions – time, talents, and treasures perhaps.

Does the family have any excess of these possessions that may be shared with others, for them to have life?

Who are these "others" in need?

Does any reluctance to share these excess possessions mean a lack of trust in the Lord, the provider of these possessions?

Share your reflections with the family and then decide on a concrete action to share any of your excess possessions.

Pray together each day for guidance in achieving your goal.

Any of you who may be interested on how we are sharing our "possessions," please do communicate with us. It is an exciting year!
