Every Family a Domestic Church -- in Mission to the World

"He who humbles himself shall be exalted."
Dear Friend,

The setting of the Gospel for the coming Sunday (Luke 14:1,7-14) was the house of one of the leading Pharisees. Read the Gospel first to the family and relate it again to them in your own words.

Why do you think did the host Pharisee invite Jesus in his house and have a meal with them? (Read again verse 1.)

The Pharisees knew how Jesus had healed and cast out evil spirits but they had disagreed on the meaning of Sabbath.

What was Jesus trying to teach the guests, and the host?

Do you think the Pharisees listened to Jesus?

The party could be no different from one in the house of a prominent member of our town or city that you could have attended. Will you please relate to your family this party you had attended in your town or city.

Describe to your family who were the guests and how they seated themselves.

Had Jesus been in this party and spoke the same words He spoke to the Pharisees, do you think these guests and the host could have listened to Jesus?

Would you?

Prayer and Reflection ~

What made it difficult to listen to Jesus?

What is the real intention of Jesus in these teachings? It is to build the Church, isn’t it? By building first relationships among the people. Jesus wanted all the people regardless of status to be welcomed and become a part of the celebration (the party), to become a part of the Church.

Why couldn’t some people be welcomed?

Are there qualifications to be a member of the Church?

How then needs transformation?
