Every Family a Domestic Church -- in Mission to the World

"For He is God of the living and not of the dead, and all live for Him."
Dear Friend,

In preparing the family for the mass this coming Sunday, please read to them its Gospel according to Luke 20: 27-38. You may then relate it to them in your own words just to clarify its highlights. You may want to emphasize the following –
  • The Gospel is about a conversation between Jesus and some Sadducees.

  • The Sadducees claim there is no resurrection.

  • They were trying to show Jesus how absurd or foolish it was for a woman to still be married to several brothers after resurrection, all the brothers whom she married one after another while in this world.

  • The reply of Jesus about children of this world who are worthy of resurrecting from the dead and therefore becoming children of God; and

  • That children of this world marry but children of God are like angels who no longer need to marry.
Request the family to pray on this Scripture during the prior week after clarifying the above highlights with them.

Meditation ~

During the week, request each member of the family to go to a quiet place and to sit comfortably. Try some breathing exercises to relax. Then meditate on the following:
  • What is God revealing to me through the person of Jesus in this event? (Jesus wanted the children of this world to become worthy of resurrecting from the dead and therefore be children of God)

  • Jesus showed His disciples during their discipleship how to live a life worthy of resurrecting from the dead and therefore becoming children of God. According to Paul in his letter to the Galatians, the fruits or signs of becoming children of God are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control (5:22). Are these fruits or signs in me?

  • Yes, we are but children that must still mature in our relationship with God and at His mercy. These fruits or signs must grow in me.

  • What concrete action must I do for these fruits or signs to grow in me?

Contemplation ~

Let your meditation flow into contemplation – continue your silent posture and allow the Holy Spirit to perform His transforming action in you; you, submitting to His action openly and with humility. Be sensitive to a feeling in your heart for an ardent yearning to follow Him.
