Every Family a Domestic Church -- in Mission to the World

"He Saw and Believed!"
Dear Friend,

Recall that the disciples, including Peter abandoned Jesus when the chief priests, officers of the Temple and the elders, arrested him. Soon after Peter remembered what Jesus had said that he would deny Him three times before the cock crowed, and indeed he had denied Him, Peter tried to reconcile his faith. Read then to the family the Gospel for Easter Sunday according to John (20:1-9) and request the family to follow the experience of Peter inside that empty tomb.

"The events at Gethsemani, toward and on Calvary, and the burial of Jesus are still fresh in my mind, running over and over again.

"Did He rise from the dead as He said He would?

"Earlier Mary Magdalene woke me up, hysterically saying, the Body of Jesus is not in the tomb where He was buried. I had to see for myself so the disciple whom Jesus loved and I ran to the tomb to find out. It is indeed empty and this is the third day since He had died.

"Is this a fulfillment of His promise to rise on the third day?

"He is not here. Was His Body stolen? But the linen cloths wrapped on Him and the napkin around His head are still here lying flat in its place as if the Body just went through without disturbing them. If someone had taken the Body, wouldn't that someone had taken the clothes as well, had wrapped up and covered the Body to hide it?

"I remember the time Jesus transfigured and His brilliance penetrated and shone through His clothes. Was that a preview for me that I may understand and help others believe these events when they do happen?

"Standing here, the empty tomb seemed to say to me, 'Do not be afraid; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place where they laid him' (Mark 16:7)*.

"I seem to hear what Jesus had said before, 'If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not believe me. But if I do them, even though you don't have faith in me, believe me because of the works I do, and know that the Father is in me and I in the Father.' (John 10:37-38).

"I do believe!"

Prayer and Reflection ~

Lead the family into silent reflection and imagine yourself inside the empty tomb.

          What do you see?

It is dark inside but feel what the empty tomb is saying to you.

What you hear is what you believe in the Son of Man who was there the night before.
