Dear Friend,

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday (John 3:16-18).

The lesson revealed to us by this Gospel is the relationship between the Father and the Son, and the Father and the Son with that of the world. We all know that the Trinity is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit was not mentioned in this Gospel. Let us talk first about the Holy Spirit with your family. What is the Holy Spirit? Listen to Jesus describe the Holy Spirit to His disciples in the following verses:

    · John 14:15-17
    · John 14:25-26
    · John 15:26
    · John 16:7
    · John 16:12-15

In other words, the Holy Spirit is the presence of the Father and the Son within His disciples (including us if we deserve to be among His disciples) revealing to them the truth to this day.

This establishes the Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Then, please read the Gospel of John 3:16-18 to your family and point out the following relationships:

  • The love of the Father to the confused sinful world that He sent His Son to save it.

  • The obedience of the Son to the Father.

  • The Son bringing the love of the Father to the world.

  • Anyone who follows the Son will have life; anyone who fails to follow will be lost.
The Son knows the Father; and the Father knows the Son, so that there is complete trust between the two, hence, the Son always follows the will of the Father.

The Holy Spirit continued to reveal the truth to His disciples after the Son had gone back to the Father.

Meditation ~

The Holy Spirit will continue revealing the truth to me -- everything that Jesus had told His disciples.

The relationship of the Father and the Son was based on their knowledge of each other.

The Father knows me even before I was born but I can only know Him with what the Holy Spirit will reveal to me.

All I know at the moment is that He loves me and that He sent His Son to me to guide me to eternal life.

All I need to do is to be open to His Holy Spirit.

Contemplation ~

Imagine yourself with Nicodemus that evening when Jesus told him:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
"

Let His Spirit lead you to respond to Him.
